My Story

“Would you like to be a project manager?”

“YES! ABSOLUTELY! Just one question… what’s a project manager?”

“It’s the one person that can tell the CEO what to do.”

As it was, my boss may have oversold the realities of the position. Yes, a project manager could tell the CEO what to do. However, getting the CEO to actually do what you ask is another story altogether. I hadn’t yet learned the art of managing without formal authority.

With time, effort, and experience, I developed the skills to become an effective project manager. Eventually, I moved to roles outside of project management and made a startling discovery. The skills I had spent the past decade honing made me an incredibly effective leader, even outside the context of project management.

Why “Lead Like a PROJECT Manager”?

Project management is inexorably tied to a unique challenge. Project managers rely upon their ability to lead resources without formal authority. Effective project managers can lead up, down, and sideways.  While this challenge is inherently tied to project management, any leader or aspiring leader can utilize the lessons of the industry. “Lead Like a PROJECT Manager” is a holistic look at the necessary skills to lead up, down, and sideways and practical exercises to develop and hone these skills.
